Another beautiful, sunny, good-temperature day today here in New York City! The sun is shining outside my window! My wonderful flowering tree has lost almost all its blossoms - pretty much a month to the day from when it started to flower - but I'm used to that! Flowering trees don't hold their blooms long....
My granddaughter Anisa will be dropped off this afternoon for another sleepover! Hope it goes well! If I'm up to the walking we'll go over to the main drag (Morris Park Avenue) and get pizza!
Here's Anisa:
And, for more fannish viewing pleasure, here are the boys!

P.S. - I'm reading "The Wrong Side of Paris" by Honore de Balzac!!! Woo-woo! Grins!

I just watched on PBS a very fine movie called "My Boy Jack" (written by David Haig) about Rudyard Kipling's son John Kipling. At the end the following poem was recited. I think it's beautiful so I thought I'd share it with you all.
From “My Boy Jack” by David Haig
Have you news of my boy Jack?
Not this tide.
When do you think that he’ll come back?
Not with this wind blowing and this tide.
Has anyone else had word of him?
Not this tide.
For what has sunk will hardly swim
not with this wind blowing and this tide.
O dear, what comfort can I find?
None this tide
nor any tide.
Except he did not shame his kind
not even with that wind blowing
and that tide.
Then hold your head up all the more
this tide and every tide.
Because he was the son you bore
and gave to that wind blowing
and that tide.
***
(I’m not sure whether David Haig wrote this or it was written by Rudyard Kipling and simply quoted
in the film.)

Today marks five months since my husband Hannes died November 14, 2007. It's just beginning to sink in, I think. That he is gone forever. That he's not coming back. That I am lost. That I've lost in the game of life. My helpmeet is gone, the person with whom I thought to spend my declining years. There's nobody with me now. No one has my back, no one cares about me, really cares. No one for whom my passing or remaining would make any significant difference. I will not make a new start. I will go on as I have. Be whom I have been. I categorically refuse to become someone else in the face of this massive blow from the hand of God. God made me as I am, formed me to be who I am because of the man with whom I was joined. The challenge in my life that was Hannes is no more. But the person I became because I met and resolved that challenge - she remains. Mind you, I do not give up. No. I do not give up. But I will not pander to the expectations of the world in any way. I will remain myself. I will always be Hannes' wife.
Rest in peace, my darling boy. Rest in peace. I love you. I will always love you. You are always with me so I will always be alone.

I haven't written much of anything lately except birthday greetings so, since I'm in a fairly good mood and the weather is great, I thought I'd just catch up!
Been doing some reading (non-TVseries-fanfic) lately and that's really good. Mostly Jane Austen and Jane Austen-fanfic. Also, currently reading "Rashi's Daughters" (Book 1: Joheved) by Maggie Anton. This is a novel based in medieval France concerning the family of the famous rabbinical scholar Rashi. So I guess it's what's called historical fiction. So far, so good, and I await the follow-up book in this series which should come in the mail from an Amazon vendor shortly.
It seems silly to talk about the weather but sun and clouds affect me greatly so I'm very pleased to be able to take a walk in my neighborhood on a sunny, fairly warm day like today. And sat outside for a bit, too, reading.
Stopped in the local Catholic church for a few moments of prayer. I haven't done that lately although I pass this church frequently.
I also came across an interesting interpretation of the Shema, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your...."
The last "thing" with which you should love God is translated in this book (mentioned above) as "your wealth, your property." Later on, the need for the last thing is explained thusly: "But rather, if you have a person whose body is more precious to him than his money, then for him it was said, 'with all your soul.' And if you have a person whose money is more precious to him than his body, then for him it was said, 'with all your wealth.'"
In other words, whatever is most precious to you, that is what you must surrender to God.... (That last is my interpretation....)
I'm beginning to think I ought to use "Religious Post" as the warning subject line for this post! Grins!
At any rate, I wish all my flist a wonderful day and a happy spring! God bless you all!
